Re: Cups and stuff
Arc Zone sells their line of Monster cups. I have used the 14, 16 and 24 with good results. I have used the pyrex cups before and did not like how easy they broke. First time I was going to weld up some titanium I broke my #16 with no spare. I did not notice that the puddle was easier to view with t...

Re: Opinion time
From a production, over all cost and quality point of view, everybody's job is at risk from being taken over by automation. Most common problem with production is human error. eliminate the human and you have that part taken care of. Living in a oil industry driven area I can say I have seen things ...

Re: Miller v Lincoln
You are spot on there, Lincoln is definitely missing a middle range inverter. If they made one, I would have gotten that instead of the dynasty 210. The precision tig is a much nicer machine than the synchrowave, too bad there isn't an Apsect 250 or something. The Aspect 375 is only rated for 240 a...

Re: trouble shooting help
What gas are you using? flow rate? is the gas hose clear with out restrictions? The high frequency contacts may need to be cleaned and adjusted. I know with my older miller the arc could be very unstable at times. A simple tune up helped out big time. I you dont already have a copy of the manual you...

Re: MILLER DYNASTY 280 DX or Synchrowave 250
Thanks for all the help so far. My local welding supply isn't much help as they still order over the phone and are not online. I have been reviewing other threads and a new question popped into my head. For starters I'm not particular to one brand or another the infamous Red/Blue discussion can be ...

Re: MILLER DYNASTY 280 DX or Synchrowave 250
Thanks for the quick replies. I will mainly be doing shop work on custom aluminun/steel hand rails. All of my work so far has been with the multimatic 200 on dc tig so the addition of welding on AC will be great. I am considering this machine for two reasons 1) this would increase my duty cycle(so ...

Re: MILLER DYNASTY 280 DX or Synchrowave 250
I have owned both machines and can say the Synchrowave is great solid unit to start out with and will give you room to grow. If your looking at something portable and depending on your requirements the 280 might not be the best choice. depending on what materials you're welding you may need the outp...

Looks good! So I guess you're not gonna send that cup my way, eh? With the Canadian to USA dollar is right now I try and do everything I can to keep my cups in top shape. Re: Titanium help
All figured out. Had to drop my purge flow very low, to the point where the ball was just hovering over the seat. Ended up at 32 amps, 55 cfh, 1 inch stick out. When i backed off on the flow to 45 cfh and 1 inch stick out the arc was doing some funny things. here is what I got done so far. I know it...

Re: Titanium help
In the past I had problems with arc start and blow out. I contacted Arc Zone about the issue and they said people have had issues with the #24 cup not working right with anything less than 50 cfh. I was able to get mine working better when I increased the pre flow from one to two seconds. This is wh...

Re: Titanium help
I do know that anything below 45 cfh that cup doesn't like it. It's all sorts of issues. But I think you're on to something with turbulence. I think maybe the back purge may be causing the torch flow to go wild. In the first picture all the seams are fully welder all the way around. I'll play with m...

Titanium help
So have been doing more and more titanium. I have done lots of practice and have been able to remedy some little hick ups I have along the way. Well Im at my wits end with this one. settings are as follows. 33 amps, 2 seconds pre flow, 12 seconds post flow, 1/16 lanthanated tungsten, 1.25 inch stick...

Before I used the right stone for doing aluminum i would get it to the point it is in the picture then use a old file or something sharp and dress off the built up aluminum.

Re: Cleaning alu residue from rod feeding glove
I keep a pair of gloves in a bag that I use for titanium. I use brand new gloves for aluminum and when they start to get dirty i put them on and cover them with soap, go to the sink and basically was my hands but keep the gloved on. rinse and dry. The come out very clean. If they dont come out clean...

Re: Specialty Bolt Extraction Electrodes
I was introduced to Arctec Unicrom rods when I was a offload mechanic. We had a hoe break every bolt off that held the drive sprocket on the drive motor. One thing I did notice was the arc was no affected very much from the slag. The slag would just drip out of the opening. I still use them but with...

If it's something you love doing then go for it! I started my shop over two years ago and would never go back to working just so someone else can make money from my hours put in. Just like the others said, it's not easy. But nothing that's risky is. I started out as a general automotive shop. In the...

Re: Ductile Iron, Structural, constructive criticism
Construction company I worked for in the past always repaired the booms on the excavators. I cant comment much on getting rid of the gap but I do know they would always put a piece of fish plate over the repair to give that area of the boom to make it stronger.

I have each of the miller helmets. The elite and infinity. I find the Elite fits better and with the infinity I get a lot of glare on the inside lens from the lights above me when Im welding. Thanks for the info. Just got off the phone with an area "gas mixtures specialist" not recommend because of the oxygen content for Tig welding. Ill get a bottle to do my aluminum work and pure argon for the rest. Ill do a review once i have tried it and see how it compares to a helium argo...

Re: Stainless Practice, Round Two
Now how in the heck do I do autogenous tacks? I just can't seem to do it without burning through and those big globby filler tacks look like total crapola! On stainless, to do a tack without filler there cannot be any gap, material must be clean and a sharp tungsten. In and out quick I find having ...

Anyone ever use this for Tig welding? My local suppler has some bottles they want me to try and give some feedback about (at a cost to me). I cant find what gasses it is made up of. Argon for sure but they could not tell me what else. If its just a Ar-He mix than its no different than another mixed ...
