Re: new old welder

The new capacitor bank did the trick she's a runner although I haven't tryed the spot or pulse feature yet due to the next project reskining the garage and new siding so everything is in the middle of the garage! Parts came to about $375.00 because of replacing the liner and new parts for the gun so...

Re: new old welder

Well I hooked up the argon and tryed welding and magic smoke appeared :o so I took off the cover and it is coming from the capacitor bank. A trip to a electric shop for welders these ones are from around the 90's with a 140,000 rating that are extinct so I ordered ones for a 250 machine that has a 1...

Re: new old welder

I hope so I'll get to play with it tomorow and hook it up to argon just to pressurise the solenoid I'd hate to buy a tank of co2 for nothing! it will look good next to the 351 though as we have space now in the garage after a major purge!

Re: Aussies - superflex type cables?

The trouble is BOC is the exclusive Australian distributor for ck but they only use a small number of parts to supplement their own range of torches and assemblies and won't bring in ck assemblies to compete against their own range so effectively locking the the good ck gear out of Australia. Sucks...

Re: Welding Tool Steel

Thanks for the advice. I went with .045" 309L because I just didn't know if this little project would be worth more exotic filler metals. I wonder how those high nickel/cromium/molybdenum rods weld. For the most part the beads are pretty bad even though I did get some straw color in a couple p...

Hi Kiwi, It's a 1968 Bonneville in pristine condition, owned by my bro-in-law. I photographed it last Thanksgiving. The tank was recently painted but the frame has never been touched. It still has the made in england decal on the frame head. I'm more of an off-roader doing long trips in Baja. Nice ...

I talked this morning with the guy who offered me that job and there's really not any room for advancement there. It's just gonna be a learning experience and a stepping stone. I think that I'll use this opportunity to pay for a couple of tig certifications. My buddy's friend keeps on telling him t...

Re: EZ Weld Tig wire for cast iron repairs

I have never used it but Mr tig did a video on it and it seemed to work well. I forgot what it was he welded but it was a rather long Crack in a cast iron piece and he didn't preheat and it didn't crack after welding. Seemed like pretty good stuff Was that the one where he repaired a leg on a base ...

Buying nothing in small amounts is best because the recycling surcharge as well as the airfare/duty charges makes it too costly for the average person, myself I have stopped making something from nothing and now just purchase something off the shelf! :D

I'm a nubie to this and I've picked up some silicon bronze to try and have been wondering if I need some flux to use as the rods are not flux coated are you using any flux?
