Re: Air compressor noise talk
We keep our compressor in a different building about 30 feet away so we don't hear ours. Unfortunately we trade quiet for moisture.

Dave he was mad because Jonathan welded again. Now he has to pay Tony overtime to grind out the bad welds and redo them.

Re: Advice on Plasma cutting Alum.
Like Steve said if you can drag directly on the aluminum. Make sure that you have enough amps to cut the piece. If you are too cold it is horrible. Plasma does a pretty good job on aluminum. Here is a sample of some of the stuff I do with it.

Tony how did the soft chewy drool proof book go? M niece really likes those kind I figure that was about the right start for him. By the way since you are on grinder duty tomorrow because of him you can put a cut off wheel on it and cut the legs on his chair and wait for the crash might be fun...

Re: X-ray welds = automatically great welder??
The guy I mentioned in my example is the line manager for a company that builds custom trailers and beds for semis and large trucks. They weld steel, stainless, and aluminum. He went to school for welding 20 some years ago but where he works they don't require any certifications so he never got cert...

Re: X-ray welds = automatically great welder??
Another question, is a certified weldor better in everyone's eyes than a non certified weldor? Example: Production weldor who has never been tested but welded for 20 years compared to someone who has welded for 2 years but has a list of certs. Just a question. One of my welding mentors has welded fo...

I am still fairly new to tig welding and new to aluminum so take that for what it is worth but it was absolutely horrible and I have welded some nasty aluminum. I still think a lot of it was me but at the same time it was nasty

Re: What I welded today....
Not being familiar with horses, .....what is a horseshoe made out of? Is it just some soft mild steel? Does it weld pretty easily? Most are mild steel, some cast iron, and some aluminum. The ones I deal with are mild steel, tig can be a pain sometimes because of "stuff" deep into the meta...

Re: What I welded today....
So it was mentioned in this thread about horseshoe art, and was wondering what any of you would charge/pay for this. Also let me also apologize since these are not mig. Horseshoes tig welded in a v, drilled and tapped to be mounted on a stained and lacquered board inlayed for each horseshoe. Again ...

Re: I'm building a 8'x12' steel bed for a 06 Ford F-550....
Well my plan to build a bed with my brother in law went out the window this week thanks to a deer. After hitting a deer on the interstate and destroying his rig he had one week to get his new rig on the road so he bought a pre made bed for it. On a brighter note he hit it 3 miles from his house and ...

So I am finally setting up to start teaching the welding part of my Ag class for my student teaching. I am going to spend the rest of my time welding. Re: Mig Basics part6 Tee Joint Drill
Jonathan I concur the drag does seem to have slightly better penetration than push. I agree that either method is acceptable it just depends on joint configuration and accessibility as to what method is better.

Re: Mig Basics part6 Tee Joint Drill
What is everyone's opinion on left vs right handed techniques. I notice a difference between the way I weld and the way a right handed person welds. Example, my welding technique is better than Jonathan's jk
