Hey Jody, good video. I've done many of the keyway repairs too, one technique I used was to alternate starting the weld at one end of the keyway, then the other, this helps to eliminate the low spot typically found if you start welding from the same end. This works for any surface that requires buildup.
If I was building up the entire diameter I would weld the keyway until it's flush, then use the rotator to finish the shaft.

Not saying my way is better, it's just what I did.
