trying to learn about tig-ing 409 ss for a exhaust project.....looked through a lot of videos...looks like I have my work cut out for me...I appreciate the info out here...

Welcome to the forum.

If you're using 409 in an exhaust you'll need to use ER430 filler and you can also butt weld it without filler if fit up is good. If it's going to tie into any Carbon steel components it will need to be welded with ER309 filler. You'll be better off i you pre-heat it to about 300* F. You'll also get better results if you purge it with Argon, but not 100% required.
